What You Missed at HIMSS 2024

Apr 04, 2024 | Doximity Dialer

In March, our team headed down to Orlando for the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society’s (HIMSS) annual conference. This gathering of healthcare industry leaders is always a favorite for our team. With over 270 general education sessions, it is impossible to recap the entire conference. However, we wanted to share some of the highlights for anyone who wasn’t able to attend.

Industry Solutions Sessions
Our team was especially impressed by the robust discussion around cutting-edge solutions for healthcare. Of course, generative AI was front and center at HIMSS 2024, as the industry continues to ask: how can this impressive, ubiquitous technology be leveraged to solve pain points at all stages of healthcare delivery? From combatting administrative burnout to activating staff engagement to improving patient access, speakers covered a wide variety of AI use cases while engaging with important questions about responsible usage. One particularly interesting panel, “GenAI’s Got Talent – Can It Save Healthcare?” brought together leaders from InterSystems, Mass General Brigham, Mayo Clinic, and Vanderbilt University Medical Center to explore the limits of what AI can and can’t do, and where it’s best suited to support healthcare systems.

Telehealth Access and Equity
Of course, our team is always interested in hearing how industry leaders think about telehealth access and equity. HIMSS 2024 offered a robust slate of sessions showcasing the incredible power of telehealth to increase access to healthcare for patients from all backgrounds, with sessions focused on expanding rural health coverage and sessions that shared ways virtual care can improve health outcomes for certain patients.

Synergistic Digital Health Strategy
At a digital health conference, it might not be a surprise that digital health strategy was top of mind. However, our team was struck by the comprehensive and synergistic approach to digital health that emerged as a trend at HIMSS 2024. Health systems are increasingly interested in effective platforms that communicate with one another, allowing the system to provide a cohesive experience to patients and providers, ultimately saving time and improving outcomes.

HIMSS 2024 was an energizing and thought-provoking week. It’s encouraging to see how Doximity’s DoximityGPT, Dialer, and Amion products fit naturally into the healthcare innovation landscape. We’re already looking forward to HIMSS 2025 in Las Vegas and we hope to see you there.
