New physician connections, including oncologists and hematologists
Designated as a comprehensive cancer center, the highest recognition bestowed by the National Cancer Institute, City of Hope is a leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening diseases. It is also a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, with research and treatment protocols that advance care throughout the U.S. The City of Hope community includes a multidisciplinary team of well-renowned clinicians and scientists, allied health professionals, graduate students, fundraising specialists, marketing professionals, volunteers, and an extensive support staff — all united by the desire to find cures, save lives, and transform the future of health.
With over 2 million U.S. clinicians as members, Doximity provides a unique set of solutions for hospitals and health systems, like City of Hope, to reach physicians and organically build meaningful connections while elevating their brand reputation.
In 2016, City of Hope needed the best channel to promote their expertise in advancing cancer care among national oncologists and referring physicians. But tailoring their outreach and finding verified licensed U.S. physicians was proving to be a real challenge.
Knowing that over 80 percent of their affiliated physicians were already registered users of Doximity, City of Hope recognized the credibility and value of Doximity as a professional medical network.
With this in mind, City of Hope decided to explore a partnership with Doximity’s Hospital Solutions team to develop media-rich campaigns that would drive physician awareness of their expertise in leading-edge research, clinical trials, scientific innovation, and patient care as well as drive attendance to upcoming CME events.
We consider Doximity not only a market leader, but to us, they are a premier partner. The Doximity network is clearly a place where doctors, including our own, gather to communicate, stay on top of medical news and research, and to send and receive both physician and patient referrals. We’ve had nothing but an outstanding experience in working with them.

Using Doximity’s Hospital Solutions, City of Hope has access to a suite of tools to help support or drive various marketing programs.
One tool that has yielded significant results is DocNews® — a unique way for hospitals and health systems to deliver branded content on Doximity’s medical newsfeed. Doximity users experience a custom newsfeed with curated news and research specific to their specialty via their desktop or mobile device. DocNews® helps health systems like City of Hope share meaningful sponsored content — like exciting new research or an announcement of a new clinical trial — with the right physician, at the right time.
Just last year, City of Hope announced it was one of the very first certified designated centers in the country to provide both FDA-approved CAR T Cell Therapies, one of the most promising areas of cancer treatment available today. By distributing this announcement via DocNews®, City of Hope was able to share this exciting milestone with thousands of physicians, helping drive an increase in patient referrals for clinical trials. Most recently, City of Hope published a DocNews® story on CS1-CAR T therapy following chemotherapy in treating patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. The story reached 6,000 physicians and saw almost three times the average engagement rate with oncologists using Doximity’s platform. In addition, the DocNews® story caught the attention of one well-connected physician from Wake Forest. When this physician “liked” the post, the story was circulated to more than 700 colleagues in his network.
Within any healthcare organization, building and maintaining relationships with referring physicians outside of your network ultimately helps patients get the care they need. City of Hope has been able to dramatically increase its physician outreach by implementing Colleague Connect®, Doximity’s direct physician-to-physician messaging.
Using this very focused approach, City of Hope has made over 880 new physician connections, including oncologists and hematologists. These new connections enable direct communication between doctors inside and outside of their network so that they may collaborate on care and increase their patient referrals.
City of Hope was an early adopter of Patient Connect, a solution that allowed their physicians to add appointment booking capabilities to both their Doximity profiles and their public profiles on U.S. News and World Report, which receives over 12 million visitors per month. In just one month of using Patient Connect, City of Hope received 154 new patient opportunities. This year, City of Hope and Doximity celebrate three years of partnership.
